Passive  insulation. Active cooling.

Our technologies
TerraVac develops technologies for thermal insulation and cooling, from concept to series production.

"All we had to do was rethink everything."

Jochen Hiemeyer, Head of Technology
STRATMO is TerraVac's perlite vacuum insulation.
It delivers a substantially higher insulation performance compared to conventional materials.
Durable, mineral and proven in high-volume production.
The market is changing.
Rising energy efficiency requirements, the planned revision of the EU ecodesign regulations and growing regulatory pressure on PFAS, flame retardants and petroleum-based raw materials are changing which insulation materials can still be used in future. Conventional insulation is reaching a physical limit. Around 95 % of the energy in refrigerators and freezers is lost through the insulation.
STRATMO is the answer.
STRATMO encases finely ground volcanic rock material in a high-barrier film and evacuates the resulting body. The result is a thermal conductivity of 7 mW/m·K with a service life of more than 20 years, and a self-supporting vacuum body that combines insulation and structure in a single component. As a mineral, perlite is non-combustible, free of blowing agents and flame retardants, and fully recyclable.
STRATMO+ is perlite vacuum insulation with an embedded glass fibre panel.
It achieves the best insulation performance per unit of weight across our entire technology family.
Advantages of STRATMO and STRATMO+
01

Built to last, not to degrade

The open-pore perlite structure tolerates small increases in pressure. While other vacuum insulation loses noticeable performance over the years, the efficiency advantage is retained for 20 years and more.
02

More product, same outer dimensions

Thinner insulation means more usable volume or more compact appliances. As a self-supporting body, STRATMO also replaces structural parts and opens up new product designs.
03

Economical in series production

Perlite costs a fraction of high-performance alternatives such as fumed silica. In series production, STRATMO reaches manufacturing costs on a par with existing technologies, with far better performance.
04

Proven at industrial scale

In development since 2012 and used in high-volume production of refrigerators and freezers since 2022. More than 50 patents protect the technology.
SILYNT is TerraVac's thermoelectric cooling technology.
It integrates cooling directly into the insulation and makes the compressor obsolete.
Silent, highly efficient and requiring minimal installation space.
Conventional cooling is reaching its limits.
Compressors still define what refrigeration appliances look like. They take up space, generate noise and vibration, and tie product design to a fixed form. Thermoelectric cooling would be the elegant alternative, but until now it was considered too inefficient for serious applications.
SILYNT is the answer.
The poor efficiency was never down to the Peltier element but to the insulation behind it. SILYNT places the Peltier elements directly inside an almost thermal-bridge-free vacuum insulation body with an embedded glass fibre panel. With a thermal conductivity of 1.5 mW/m·K, the cooling load stays so low that thermoelectric cooling works with high efficiency for the first time. In a refrigerated drawer, 4 watts are enough for a temperature difference of 20 kelvin.
Advantages of SILYNT
01

Completely silent

Without a compressor, there is no running noise and no vibration. That opens up locations previously ruled out for refrigeration appliances, from bedrooms to open-plan kitchens.
02

New form factors instead of fixed geometry

Thin insulation and the absence of a compressor create usable volume and free product design from the classic refrigerator shape. Form factors such as a refrigerated drawer only become possible this way.
03

No refrigerant

Thermoelectric cooling works entirely without refrigerants. A structural advantage as requirements for fluorinated greenhouse gases keep tightening.
04

In series development

SILYNT is in series development, and the first series production for refrigerated drawers is being set up. The underlying vacuum technology has been used in high-volume production of refrigerators and freezers since 2022.
Transparent xenon-based vacuum glass. GLAXYN insulates at the level of vacuum insulation while remaining transparent.
A combination conventional insulation cannot deliver. The technology is currently at prototype stage.
